What is a meditation? 

Meditation is a mind-based practice that trains our attention & awareness to flow in intentional ways. If the intention is to increase present-moment awareness, then a form of Mindfulness Meditation may be utilized. For more expansion & connection in the heart space, perhaps a Loving-Kindness Meditation would be preferred. Benefits of practicing meditation are too numerous to list but do include, quieting of the mind, lessening of reactivity and allowing for more expanded awareness. There are numerous studies that link meditation to a reduction in pain management, a reduction in overall stress & anxiety, improved focus & attention, more restful sleep, a greater "window of tolerance" for life's upsets, improved cognitive function, stronger immune system, and the list goes on. ​​​

 

​​​During this series, we will be practicing the following styles of meditation:​

​

Mindfulness Meditation emphasizing present-moment awareness

Loving-Kindness Meditation which opens the heart space, cultivating compassion

Focused-Attention Meditation using a mantra, meditation artifact or other personal item

Body Scan Meditation ~ inner-body attunement & reconnection eg.Yoga Nidra 

Movement Meditation incorporating gentle. restorative yoga postures, always guided by the breath

Guided Meditation ~ for inner-child healing, IFS-parts retrieval, past-life healing, ancestral healing. energetic cord cutting, healing karmic relationships & patterns, etc. 

Healing Imagery Meditation ~ increasing our innate healing capacity and directing attention towards the healing process, whether through visualization or guided imagery

What to Expect

This meditation series is a trauma-sensitive practice, facilitating a deep dive within your being to commune with your innermost self, one of pure consciousness &  connected to the entirety of all that was, all that is, and all that ever will be. Furthermore, you will be joining others in co-regulation, amplifying the energy of your intention & practice. Within each class, you will be reminded to hold yourself at the center of your experience, anchoring to your breath and  attuning to your body's needs in every given moment. Each week, a different style of meditation will be briefly introduced then practiced, saving time for a period of self reflection towards the end. This is where you will have the opportunity to reflect in a way that feels most supportive for you, whether that be through quiet contemplation, journaling, or sharing your experience in writing within our private online community. Aside from the meditation style and structure of the session, which are pre-chosen, you are welcome to cultivate your own experience that is most conducive to your needs. Uncovering how your body prefers to meditate and honouring that as much as possible will be essential. You may already know this or your may wish to explore the practices sitting on a chair, cushion, or meditation chair. Alternatively, you may wish to lay on a yoga mat in Savasana or even standing anchored in Tadasana (Mountain Pose).  Lastly, you are welcome to bring any items that allow for a more grounded, embodied experience such as a small pillow, throw blanket, eye mask, journal & pen, mantra, meditation artifact(s) or small personal item(s), and/or light use of essential oils, being mindful of those with scent sensitivities. ​​​

Curating Your Session

I take great care & attention towards making the physical & energetic studio space as conducive to healing as possible; therefore, prior to the practice, ​I participate in: 

  • a smudging & protection ceremony of the physical & energetic space

  • a heart-focused meditation prior to practice

  • providing warm lighting, including fairy lights & non-flame candlelight for grounding

  • the diffusing of pure essential oils (YL) specific to the practice that day 

  • intentional placement of salt lamps, healing crystals & healing plants for grounding, clearing and protection

Location

The location of my in-person yoga & meditation series will vary according to space requirements & availability.  Unless otherwise indicated, they will be located somewhere within the Saint John area, most likely Kennebecasis Valley & Hampton. Online classes will be offered from my home studio on Zoom.  All sessions, whether in-person or virtual, last approximately 1 hour.

 

Billing & Fees

My healing meditation series runs once a week for 7 weeks, following a specific style of meditation each time. As a trauma-informed Licensed Counselling Therapist, I bring you an opportunity to come together in co-regulation and in healing of the mind, body & spirit. This is not so much a "how to" meditate, although that will happen naturally, but more a "practice" of meditation where you will be guided to experience for yourself. In this way, you will be equipped with new neural pathways and newfound space within your body to facilitate more ease & consistency in your meditation practice in everyday life. This meditation series runs once a week for a duration of 7 weeks. In addition, you will be offered a unique opportunity for the duration of the series to join a private group on Facebook where you will receive further supportive content on ways to deepen your personal practice. Access to this optional group is included with your purchase of the series and closes one week after the last practice. If you are not on Facebook but would like access to the information, I will forward weekly emails with a summarization of the content each week. Total cost for the entire series is $222. Please check with your insurance plan to ensure you are covered for services under a Licensed Counselling Therapist. Full session payment is due at the beginning of the series and an official invoice will be provided at the end of the last session.
