What are Chopra's 7 Spiritual Laws of Yoga?

​​The Law of Pure Potentiality is based on the notion that our essential nature is that of pure consciousness.

The Law of Giving & Receiving is based on the notion that both giving & receiving are different expressions of the same energetic flow of the universe. 

The Law of Karma is based on the notion that every action generates a force of energy that returns to us in like kind. 

The Law of Least Effort is based on the notion that cultivating alignment & acceptance with the natural flow of the universe, allows for ease. 

The Law of Intention & Desire is based on the notion that our intentions & desires are powerful energetic forces in the universe.

The Law of Detachment is based on the notion that observing the world through non-attachment allows for greater clarity & freedom.

The Law of Dharma is based on the notion that we have a unique life purpose that aligns with our soul's growth while contributing to the world. 

 

The 7 Spiritual Laws of Yoga, as outlined by Deepak Chopra, are "pathways of alignment with the universe's natural flow and rhythm. In yogic tradition, this mirrors the idea of "santosha", or contentment. It's the notion that true success is an inner state of being, that feels connected, balanced and easeful. The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success invite us to trust, to let go, and to witness the synchronicity of the universe. ​ Aligning with them brings about a harmony that parallels the alignment of mind, body, and spirit in yoga, ushering in a life of balance, purpose, and true success." â€‹

What to Expect

This yoga series is a trauma-sensitive practice, facilitating a deep dive within your body for the purpose of experiencing stillness, reconnection, flow, and healing. Within the framework of the 7 Spiritual Laws, I bring my own background in counselling & healing to allow for a whole-body experience; where all our parts are welcome and our mind, body & spirit can be tended to. Furthermore, you will be joining others in co-regulation, amplifying the energy of your intention &  practice. Within each class, you will be reminded to hold yourself at the center of your experience, anchoring to your breath and  attuning to your body's needs in every given moment. All practices & postures can be adapted to suit the needs of your body, keeping in mind that needs are ever evolving, whether it be from one side to another, one posture to another or from one week to another. Learning to pause & go within, where you attune to your body, understand its language, and honour its needs is the goal of all my teachings & offerings. 

 

Components of the Practice

Each class will be centered around one law or theme (see themes above) and will contain practices & postures that support the integration of the theme. You will always begin and close your practice in Sukhasana (Easy Seat Pose), anchoring to the stillness within. This powerful asana sets the tone for the entire class, one of truly "arriving", not just in body but in the fullness of your being. This leads to the pranayama (breathwork) technique, mudra (sacred hand gesture), mantra (guiding phrase), and soul question ~ These are all 'signature' practices honouring the class theme. Next we head into Vinyasa Krama (gentle movement of the breath), Tadasana (Mountain Pose) ~ the blueprint of all poses where you anchor into your personal intention, Surya Prana (Sun Breaths) & Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutations), some standing postures, backbends with counterposes, and then some gentle seated and/or reclined poses that will allow you to drop further into your beingness. Finally, you are invited to lie on your mat for a period of Savasana which is a deeply healing posture, activating the parasympathetic nervous system (your natural healing state). This is also a time where you will set your intentions for the upcoming week. Last but not least, our practice will come to an official close in Sukhasana (Easy Seat Pose), where we set our 4 soul intentions with accompanying mudras, and closing in Namaste ~ a deep honouring of the inner light that connects us all.  â€‹

Curating Your Session

I take great care & attention towards making the physical & energetic studio space as conducive to healing as possible; therefore, prior to the practice, ​I participate in: ​

  • a smudging & protection ceremony of the physical & energetic space

  • a heart-focused meditation & blessing prior to practice

  • creating a calming, high-vibration musical playlist specific to class theme

  • providing for a sun-lit room where possible or using warm lighting, including fairy lights & non-flame candles for grounding

  • the diffusing of pure essential oils (YL) specific to class theme

  • intentional placement of salt lamps, healing crystals & healing plants for grounding, clearing and protection, all related to class theme

Location

The location of my in-person yoga & meditation series will vary according to space requirements & availability.  Unless otherwise indicated, they will be located somewhere within the Saint John area, most likely Kennebecasis Valley & Hampton. Online classes will be offered from my home studio on Zoom.  All sessions, whether in-person or virtual, last approximately 1 hour.

 

Billing & Fees

As a trauma-informed Licensed Counselling Therapist, I bring you an opportunity to come together in co-regulation and in healing of the mind, body & spirit. Many of the practices within the session can be transferred off the mat and integrated into your everyday life for the purposes of whole-body reconnection and nervous system regulation. This yoga series runs once a week for a duration of 7 weeks. In addition, you will be offered a unique opportunity for the duration of the series to join a private group on Facebook where I will be providing you with more in-depth information surrounding the themes and how to integrate them into everyday life for the purpose of restoring balance & flow within your life. Access to this optional Facebook group is included with the purchase of the series and closes one week after the last practice. If you are not on Facebook but would like access to the information, I will forward weekly email updates for the duration of the series. Total cost for the entire series is $222.  Please check with your insurance plan to ensure you are covered for services under a Licensed Counselling Therapist. Full session payment is due at the beginning of the series and an official invoice will be provided at the end of the last session.
